Monika Szumilak, N.C.T.M.B.
ImageMonika Szumilak is a nationally certified massage therapist with very extensive bodywork education, including in-depth advanced training in John F. Barnes’s method of Myofascial Release (MFR). Monika’s Sonoma based business Freedom Therapy MFR is devoted to helping clients experience freedom from chronic pain and physical limitations using John F. Barnes Myofascial Release approach. This very safe and effective method addresses physical and emotional layers of the human Being and is based in a deep respect for the healing powers of our bodies. MFR helps unravel deep-seated causes of physical discomfort, thus bringing hope to many clients suffering from chronic conditions. It is particularly suited to clients recovering from accidents, surgery, injuries and trauma, but it can equally serve to improve athletic performance and bring deeper level of relaxation and wellbeing to anybody willing to listen to their body’s guidance.

Conditions that has been helped with Myofascial Release approach include and are not limited to:
Back pain
Headaches and migraines
Insomnia, restlessness, anxiety and depression
Frozen shoulder
Jaw pain and restriction (TMJD)
Women's Heath: pre- and post-pregnancy, prolapse uterus, endometriosis, vulvodynia
Incontinence and urgency
Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue

In her practice, Monika is guided by the wisdom of her clients’ bodies. A former martial artist and an avid yoga practitioner, she believes that healing comes from the ability to find stillness and listen deeply to the guidance that is offered during each session. MFR recognizes that our body is all connected through the densely woven web of connective tissue (fascia). Physical pain and discomfort are symptoms whose causes may not be readily visible, such as postural imbalances, scar tissue or emotional trauma. MFR practitioners are trained to perceive such imbalances through detailed analysis of posture, tissue quality, and, so importantly, their intuition.
